I did something today that I haven’t done since high school. I just saw Wolverine and 17 Again back to back (last time it was one of the Harry Potters and one of the Shreks). To start off, I really enjoyed both movies and the lead males in both movies were awesome. And there is nothing wrong with me saying that either. Oh and also, I saw this movie with Rei and Libby and they both thought that Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron were very hot. At all times. And I respectfully agree.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine: You know that this is essentially a prequel to the X-Men films right? So even if you haven’t seen any of the X-Men films, it’s not like you’ll be lost. In fact, it may just make you want to see the films before this (like it did me). This movie was just a really good action movie. Great effects. Not crazy long. Love story. A bit sad. One of the best superhero fighting scenes I’ve seen in a while. I know a lot of my friends said they didn’t like Wolverine, but I enjoyed myself very much. It was also really nice to see the X-Men story, which I’ve heard so much about, in a movie. I love the whole mutant people thing (lol). Probably not as much as my lady friends (aka Hugh Jackman, what a great body to aspire to lol). And so we’re clear, I am definitely going to watch the rest of the X-Men movies because of this movie. The movie made $87 million this weekend. Damnnn.
17 Again: First thing’s first. Zac Efron was as awesome as expected. And what a great movie to start the rest of your career with…as in this movie was so much more than just Zac Efron’s first lead role in a non-HSM movie…it was actually great! It was funny, charming, and just cute. You could think of it as 13 Going on 30 with a male lead, but you’d be doing the movie a disservice. Both movies are certainly similar, but they’re not the same. Go see it and see for yourself. Very well done. Oh and it was so great to see Matthew Perry on the big screen again. Very Chandler-y (loved it).
I should start seeing double features more often. P.S. I’m like one of the only people at my school who isn’t dealing with finals right now. Like I’m literally typing this review in the library..as I watch others desperately studying for finals, completing papers, or just going crazy. Good luck friends!
I saw Obsessed last night at Atlantic Station and can I just say that I found it to be quite funny (whether that was intentional I’m not sure). I’m specifically referring to the creepy stalker just showing up and being a freak. I also want to say that I would have payed $10 just to see the scene where Beyonce loses all control and beats the bitch. It was so exciting/funny/fierce to see Beyonce acting all Crazy in Love (you see what I did there?). In all honesty, Beyonce carried this movie and it would not have been the same if it was anyone else playing the part. That’s just truth. People paid to see Beyonce (and they are lying if they say differently). BTW, Beyonce’s acting was not bad. And Ali Larter looked extra hot in this movie. What a great time. I’ve seen Beyonce beat a bitch, have you?
I have to say I really enjoyed watching the Bravo A-List awards and here’s why:
1) Kathy Griffin - I love the bitch. Love her specials. Love her ability to laugh at everyone including herself.
2) Dedication to Natasha Richardson - What a beautiful and meaningful dedication to the late actress. Not going to even lie, I almost started crying.
2) Tori Spelling’s Acceptance Speech - Who knew that Tori Spelling had such an adorable personality? Great and funny speech. I don’t really listen to what everyone says about her (because it’s bullshit), so I have a great impression of her! That was a really great excerpt from the book too. Go Tori.
4) Only 1.5 hours - This wasn’t one of those award shows that dragged on.
5) Okay I can’t think of a 5th reason…The Kardashians, maybe? Justin Timberlake’s video speech? I’m done.
What you need to know before watching this: Madonna tried to adopt a baby and was unfortunately not able to. Angelina Jolie has lots of adopted babies. This made me LOL (really needed that). Enjoy!
The second Sex and the City movie is slated to be released next year on May 28, 2010 (around the same weekend the original was released). As you know I have my doubts (well…doubt…thinking it’s going to suck and ruin everything). Right around college graduation…fun! Also there is some speculation that Mr. Big isn’t part of the movie yet…but I am sure that will be cleared up soon. And as for babies? We’ll see.
Just saw Adventureland with a friend and I just want to write this down before I forget. Refreshing and cute movie that’s just fun to watch. Lots of great laughs and good awkward moments. The cast is perfect. Kristen Stewart is just as good as everyone said she was (although she definitely played a similar character in Twilight). Love the main character’s story from beginning to end. Thought I’d hate this movie, ended up loving it. Go check it out for some fun. Oh and it’s better than Superbad in my opinion (since it’s from the same director and all).
So many of my friends (and I’m sure a few first time visitors) most definitely just gave me the death stare. How can a straight guy possibly 1) admit that he watched 13 Going on 30 and 2) then admit to loving the movie? I don’t know how, but it’s all true! I’m not sure why I didn’t watch the movie when it originally came out in 2004 (Hello, same year as Mean Girls..and I definitely saw that one in theatres). All I know is that the timing of the movie couldn’t have been more perfect for where I am in my life. It’s just what I needed. What an adorable movie with such a strong message. You know, thetake charge of your life before it’s too late to go back/fix whatever needs fixing now before it’s too late message? Also, can I just say that Jennifer Garner is so incredibly cute/adorable/hot in this movie. Had she not been so adorable this movie probably would have sucked [for me]. I just had to say something. You know I’m going to have a quote later. What can I say, I love the chick flicks.
Its often said that no matter the truth people see what they want to see. Some people might take a step back and find out they were looking at the same big picture all along. Some people might see that their lives have almost caught up to them. Some people may see what was there all along. And then there are those other people, the ones who run as far as they can so they don’t have to look at themselves. And as for me, I can see clearly now.
It was confirmed today that Natasha Richardson died after suffering a brain injury from a skiing accident this week. I only know her from one of my favorite movies, The Parent Trap (Lindsay Lohan edition). I thought Natasha was absolutely adorable/beautiful in the movie. It’s unbelievably sad and unexpected news and I wish her and her family the very best. She was only 45 years old. God bless.
It only makes sense to put this weekend’s Top Model and Lindsay Lohan story into one. After all, they both involve dumb decisions and someone getting arrested (sort of).
Let’s talk about America’s Next Top Model auditions first. Yesterday, three people were arrested and six were injured while waiting to audition for the show’s 13th cycle in New York. Seriously? Apparently the audition was eventually shut down because it wasn’t “organized properly.” By the way, did you know that next season of America’s Top Model is only going to be people 5′7” and under? Tyra’s trying to spice things up. Speaking of spicy things, I watched this season’s Top Model premiere and there may just be someone I’m rooting for. I have to give Tyra props here. 12 seasons of a show later and she still manages to keep things interesting. We’ll see where things go.
Did you hear about the warrant for Lindsay Lohan’s arrest? Something to do with violating her probation? There’s lots of stories out there, including [another] fight with her girlfriend. Honestly I don’t even want to talk about it. Lindsay needs to start making better headlines. She went from respectable into the “socialite” category. Time to bring things back. Mean Girls 2.0. You can do it. I haven’t given up. She’s from Long Island after all!
The Pussycat Dolls did their own version of Jai Ho from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. Their song is called Jai Ho (You Are My Destiny). I heard it a couple of weeks ago and absolutely thought it was destruction. But after seeing them perform it at the New York Britney Spear’s concert (their first time performing it live ever), I’m starting to come around. The video doesn’t hurt either. Well played. I’ll see how I feel about it a bit later. I also just want to say that they could have potentially killed this song (and I’m sure many people do). At the end of the day I guess it just celebrates Slumdog Millionaire even more so whatever. Enjoy the video below!
Leighton Meester (Blair from Gossip Girl) has just signed on to be in the movie, The Roommate. It’s something about college. This is pretty fresh. Not only this and Gossip Girl, but she may also appear in a movie opposite Zac Efron. A modern day Beauty and the Beast deal called Beastly. I’d watch it. This all has to happen around Gossip Girl shootings. Should be fun. Looking forward to more work from this girl. Hokai!
Don’t you just love Reese Witherspoon? Honestly, she’s one of my favorite actresses and Legally Blonde is one of my favorite movies of all time. Here’s a new interview Reese Witherspoon had with Elle. (OMG, Elle, like in Legally Blonde! alright that’s enough.)
On her divorce with Ryan Phillippe: Very humiliating and very isolating…But, by the way, if it’s not painful, maybe it wasn’t the right decision to marry to begin with. Those are the appropriate emotions. When people get in your face and say, ‘This will pass,’ you think, Are they crazy? I’m never gonna feel any better than I feel right this minute and nothing’s ever gonna make sense again. And I still have moments where I’m like, Nothings ever gonna make sense again.
On dealing with the split: You see a lot of people play this blame game. Blame, blame, blame. You know? And it’s a really easy thing to do, and I’m certainly guilty of it. [You have to] look at yourself and go, ‘What part of this do I need to own? Which part of this is my responsibility? And that’s the painful work that you have to go through to hopefully get some real life knowledge out of it.
On being a mama: When I first had Ava, I couldn’t afford [help]. And it was so hard. I was out in Los Angeles, living [away from my family]. I really didn’t have any friends. And I had a baby. No one else who was 22 had a baby. I couldn’t go out.
On being an alleged “control freak”: I don’t think I’m a control freak. I think I’m just fearful. I operate from a lot of fear, like, of things being lost or forgotten or neglected. Losing the spiritual rather than the physical. It’s so funny to me that somehow I’ve been portrayed as a very, like, closed-off or uptight person. I’m very open.
On the paparazzi: Fascination is gonna die off. I honestly know it. But it’s just like I keep waiting and waiting, and then it’s just more tabloid magazines, and it keeps going. I don’t take a shower everyday. I don’t put on makeup everyday. I wear a lot of sunglasses, in case you noticed.
On boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal: He’s fabulous. He really is a fantastic guy.
On crazy dieting: I’m made of cookies after the holidays. Everything inside me is made of sugar and flour and a little red wine–a lot of red wine.
I just recently saw Slumdog Millionaire for the fourth time in theatres and I have to say… I love the movie even more than I did before. I don’t know if it’s the whole winning 8 Oscars thing or maybe I just paid even more attention, but damn what a great movie it is. I noticed so many things I didn’t pay attention to before. I think what I really appreciated most this time around was the soundtrack. I also realized something very important: Slumdog Millionaire could have been one of the worst movies ever if it hadn’t been for the direction, cinematography, and soundtrack. This is the first time I’ve actually thought of a movie as an art (picture strokes of a brush on a plain canvas and you’ll see what I mean). They just don’t make them like that anymore. Well done dog.
Oh and by the way, the child who plays the youngest Jamal (check right) is my favorite. He was a very special part of the movie. What a cute kid!
And lastly, I saw the movie with two people who had never seen it before and what did they think of it? Can you guess? They loved it. If you haven’t seen this movie, I highly suggest you take advantage of the fact that it’s back in theatres (for a limited time). And if you have seen it already, see it again!
