I’m sorry, but American Idol needs to stop. Now.

What season of American Idol are we on now? 7? 8? Talk about milking the cow. Let’s just be honest, the novelty of the show is gone. The show is now a cash cow and that is it. It’s boring. And most importantly, it is not producing the same quality of stars (its sole purpose?). The only season I ever watched was season 1 (when Kelly Clarkson won) because it was during the summer, it felt like a fun summer event, and it was new (I remember I started high school right after that summer..good times). Now it’s in January just so it can air during May sweeps (I’m sure you know, but if you don’t, May sweeps is basically a competition between TV shows to see who can get the most viewers—>advertising dollars). Here are the only people who have had sustainable success as a result of this show: Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jordin Sparks (but she’s still pretty new so we’ll see how that goes). Every other person who has won the show has either been dropped from their label or struggling to stay relevent. I’m sorry but that’s the truth and I think it’s because American Idol spends more time on the singers during the show and less time after the show is over. American Idol should definitely not have another season. You have enough money, now go give it to someone who actually needs it (and way to cancel the charity show, no comment).
Just so I’m clear, my problem is with American Idol, not all of the talented people who have been part of the show throughout the years.
UPDATE: My friend brought Jennifer Hudson to my attention. She’s just amazing. I was specifically referring to people who won the show. As for Clay Aiken, I’m not sure where exactly he stands at the moment.
