Today was a great day. Ode to Nashifa Hooda.

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Okay it’s only 3:14 pm, but a great morning/afternoon deserves acknowledgment. Let me do this list-style for easy reading.

- I had my only Negotiations test today and hopefully got at least a B (in case you’re wondering if I’m such a slacker, my GPA says nothing about who I am…except that school is definitely not the most important thing to me in the entire world…but it is important lol).

- I scheduled all my physical therapy appointments for the next 6 weeks, starting with 7:30 am tomorrow morning. Now all I have to do is show up. And you bet your ass that I will show up and OWN. This scheduling is something I needed to do all week, so a very big weight has been lifted.

nashifahooda- I ran into one of my favorite people today, Nashifa Hooda (this post will be updated with a picture). She’s basically a hoot and a half and I love this girl. We caught up for a bit and then I went off to get food and Starbucks. Avara ghardii!!! JK. Loves her and looking forward to seeing her more.

- While I was in my car, I noticed the temperature go from 61 degrees to 75 degrees. That is always a great thing. Although I do love my cold, too.

- While I was waiting for my food, I decided to get my sideburns trimmed (you know, to look more presentable). Knocked that off the to-do list and wasn’t even planning on it (those are the best). Met a nice guy named Kit from Vietnam who I’ll definitely be going back to.

- Listened to “Hello” and “Halo” by Beyonce during the entire time I spent in my car today (a good 30-40 minutes). The music was blasting and I was smiling.

- Came back with my food and my second Starbucks drink in hand. While trying to open the door, what happened? Yes. I dropped my Starbucks and it went splashing. Thank goodness it was just my spare drink (I killed the other one while running my errands). I did manage to drink the 2 oz that didn’t fall out of the cup. Addict much?

Now I’m back in my room. I am going to just enjoy the beautiful weather and rest my lower back/leg. I feel very nautious lately..I hope I’m not pregnant. Hahahaha and scene. I hope everyone else is having a great day too!

A great new interview with Beyonce

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

beyonceebonyAt the airport today I was suckered into buying the April 2009 issue of Ebony magazine. And by “suckered into buying” I really mean that I saw Beyonce on the cover of this magazine with the title “Beyoncevoled…An intimate portrait of the superstar you may not know.” Seriously, you wouldn’t buy it? Anyway, I loved the interview and for that reason I’m typing it all up. If you get a chance, try to check out the actual magazine because it’s a great read with some awesome pictures!

On performing for the Obama’s first dance: I was completely anxious and honored. Honestly I’ve watched everyday because I just want to relive the moment. It was one of the most spectacular moments of my life.I was very misty-eyed. What was interesting was the moment after. As I was breaking down [crying], they told me, ‘All right, get off the stage.’ And I was literally bawling. They were like, ‘Come on. Get yourself together.’

Who is the real Beyonce?: I’m a daughter, I’m a friend, I’m a wife, I’m a sister. All those things first. I’m an artist. I’m a businesswoman. I’m very sensitive and I’m also very strong. I’m so many things. I’m multifaceted. I’m a lover. I’m inspired by love. I make decisions from the heart.

beyonceebony2On favoring projects that provide personal growth: If it doesn’t, I don’t do it. I turn down million-dollar offers all the time because it’s something that does not feel true for what I’m trying to say. I have to be passionate about it. Love inspires and growth inspires me. If it is not going to be iconic, something I can love 10 years from now, I’ve learned I should not waste my time with it.

On family: In every family, you have your disagreements, but ultimately we love eachother and we would do anything for eachother.

On Jay Z and business: Jay doesn’t get involved in my business and I don’t get involved in his. He was very successful before I met him and I was very successful before I met him. So we have so much respect for each other, and respect for each other artistically. We are very close friends, and I believe he is the ultimate artist and he has the same feelings for me.

On being a wife: I don’t know how to talk about it because I don’t like to talk about it. But I ahve a great example of a great wife, and that’s my mother. And I have great friends around me that have been married, so I’m lucky to have really good examples. And a great husband.

On being messy: I’m a little messy. Whenever I’m out in public, I have to be put together. When I get home, I rebel against it and I don’t want to take care of anything. I drop it. I’m relaxed. I don’t have any shoes on. No makeup. My shoes are left at the door. My purse is in the kitchen. I think that is the most difficult thing for him [Jay Z]. He’s very, very organized. I’m extremely organized when I’m working, and I work so much that when I get home I don’t want to think about anything.

On being a perfectionist: I think this is just who I am. My parents and the drive they have, it’s kind of worn off on me. When I was a kid, I’ve always been a bit of a perfectionist. That’s just my personality, because I love what I do.

On mistakes and safety (I love this one): Of course I’ve made mistakes. But I’d rather take chances than be safe. Simplicity is my word for 2009. But safety is my worst enemy.

Is it just me or do you love Beyonce a little bit more after reading that interview? Family values. Humility. Honesty. Fierce-ness. Awesomeness. Thanks Ebony!

Who’s there to save the hero?

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

savetheheroI’m left with no shoulder
But everybody wants to lean on me
I guess I’m their soldier
Well, who’s gonna be mine?

What can bring me back to life?
A simple word, a gesture
Someone to say you’re beautiful
Come find this buried treasure
With eyes lead to a pot of gold

I’ve given too much of myself
And now it’s driving me crazy
I’m crying out for help
Sometimes I wish someone would just come here
And save me, save me from myself

A Beyonce Minute

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

beyonceminuteLet’s talk about Beyonce and what’s coming up with her. To your right is a picture of Beyonce on the cover of a magazine called Los Angeles Confidential. I’ve never heard of the magazine but it had a picture of Beyonce I haven’t seen before so everyone wins.

The “I Am… Sasha Fierce” album: I am obsessed with Beyonce’s new album (which has been out since this past November). Seriously, what a range this girl has. While I love the upbeat songs like Single Ladies and Diva, I think the ballads hit home for me…all of them. Her voice just sounds so beautiful. This is the kind of music that reminds me why exactly I’m paying for it in the first place. Beyonce, keep this up and you’ll go down as a legend (you know, more than you already are). Get on this album. It’s never too late.

Beyonce’s “I Am… Tour”: Beyonce starts her next world tour later this month in Canada. As of right now, it’s mostly a European tour with some dates in Canada and 1 in the United States (Seattle, WA on April 1, 2009 and New Orleans, LA on July 3-5). I’m not exactly sure why only Seattle and New Orleans at the moment, but hopefully more U.S. tour dates will be released soon (they must be). She is having VIP packages for most of the tour where you can meet her and even have a ticket on the stage (I have to find a way to get to one of these concerts…lol).

meetbeyonceI met Beyonce?: So I was going to bring this up eventually. Basically I paid my way to meet Beyonce through one of her VIP packages (during her Beyonce experience tour in 2007…It was the NYC show on August 5th, 2007…how could I possibly forget?). Well anyway, it was a really short meet and greet where we got to shake hands with her and take a picture with her. I took my friend with me and let’s just say we were about to faint when we saw her. We were wearing our Beyonce shirts and Beyonce said to us, “you look cute in your t-shirts.” That’s the reason for the big smile to your right…What an amazing moment in time. BTW, she looked like a doll. After this we had tickets within the first 3 rows (it may have been front..I forget). Beyonce was of course excellent in concert and I ended up going to see her again in Atlantic City… I took my mom to that one and she loved it. I love seeing the small differences (if any) between different shows… I know that may make me a freak in some eyes…but I’d rather be called a freak and get to see Beyonce perform :)

beyonceobsessedmovieBeyonce’s new movie “Obsessed”: Have you seen the trailers for Beyonce’s next movie? It’s called Obsessed and hits theatres on April 24. It’s a different type of movie where she plays a girlfriend of a guy who seemed to have a crazy stalker. The previews actually look really exciting…I’m not sure if it’s the movie or Beyonce in the movie…Something tells me it’s the latter…Regardless, can’t wait to see B in this one. April 24. Add it to the calendar.

beyoncerelationshipsBeyonce’s never been in a relationship before?: Back to the new magazine Beyonce’s on the cover of above…In the magazine she talks about writing songs about dealing with heartache and not having someone who does the same for her. She also claims that she has never had a breakup and that Jay Z is her first relationship. Ummm I’m not really sure what to think or say, but let’s say it was true. That’d be really interesting. I mean it’s really not a big deal if she’s been in relationships before so there’s no sense in lying about something like that…is there? Who knows. Whatevs, I still love ya.

Okay so that was a lot of fun to write. Guess what album I’m listening to at the moment? That’s right, I Am…Sasha Fierce! Fierce indeed.

The 2009 Oscars Commentary. Nice.

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

2009oscarsThis is the first time in a long time that I actually watched the entire showing of the Oscars. It wasn’t even Tivo’d. I watched from beginning to end mainly because I was rooting for some things. Kate Winslet, check. WALL-E, check. Slumdog Millionaire, 8/10 check. Overall it was a really great show and it didn’t seem as long as I thought it would (yesss). Here are some other comments.

Hugh Jackman did a really great job as host.

Anne Hathaway has a really great voice (who knew?)

The Pineapple Express guys, Seth Rogen and James Franco, were funny during the Comedy 2008 dedication.

The thing you looked for but don’t want to talk about: Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, and Brad Pitt all being under one roof. They all looked great, so that’s over with. Now, did anyone else notice that Jennifer Aniston was in the TV shot several times when Sean Penn won the award for Best Actor (aka not Brad Pitt)? I really hope that was not intentional. While Jennifer Aniston was presenting, they showed a close-up of Angelina Jolie with a big smile. Nothing to say there. And did anyone else notice Jennifer Aniston getting kind of antsy when she was presenting her award? Kind of like she had just seen a ghost perhaps? Whatever, I honestly love movies by Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie and hope they continue being professionals and keep making great movies.

The dance/song number with Hugh Jackman and Beyonce, as well as Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Amanda Seyfried was cute and cheesy (just how I like it). I told my friend that I thought Beyonce was lip syncing…which is different and surprising… I’m really good at spotting a lip-syncer… I want to give her the benefit of the doubt, however. I’m sure we’ll learn more soon. Say it ain’t so B.

Tina Fey and Steve Martin were kind of funny. Still love Tina Fey though.

You know who else wasn’t funny? Will Smith. Yeah, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Will Smith. Sigh.

Dustin Lance Black’s acceptance speech for Best Adapted Screenplay (Milk) was very awesome and hopeful. I’d YouTube that one for sure.

I’m glad Heath Ledger won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. I know a lot of people think he won just because he died, but he really did do a great job in The Dark Knight. The speech by his family (dad, mom, and sister) was humbling and naturally made me sad.

I’m really glad Kate Winslet finally won her Oscar for Best Actress. She seemed very genuine and humble in her acceptance. Although saying practicing this moment with a shampoo bottle was kind of cliche, it still worked. She’s come a long ass way since Titanic. She looked beautiful.

Reese Witherspoon was cute. Can’t go wrong with her. I’m looking forward to her next movie.

I also really enjoyed Penelope Cruz’s acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress. It was very well written and hit all the important points. I especially liked how she spoke something in Spanish because it made it seem like she really knows where she comes from.

Slumdog Millionaire won the top awards tonight including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, and Best Director. Did anyone notice how genuinely excited the actor Dev Patel (male lead of Slumdog Millionaire) was to be at the Oscars? I feel like there was never a shot when his mouth wasn’t wide-open smiling from excitement. And Freida Pinto (female lead of Slumdog) looked gorgeous as usual.

A.R. Rahman of Slumdog Millionaire said something that really stuck with me. Cheesy but great. Rahman said, “All my life, I’ve had a choice of hate and love. I chose love, and I’m here.” He won an award for his work in Slumdog FYI.

Other people who looked cute: Alicia Keys, Sarah Jessica Parker, I’m sleepy.

Honestly, that’s everything I remember. Great show this year (even if it seemed awkward at times). Congrats Slumdog Millionaire (love you, dog).

BTW, how on point were my predictions earlier? Kate Winslet, Slumdog Millionaire, and WALL-E. There’s a reason I keep saying those three names. Go support :)

U.S. Tour Dates coming? Thanks B.

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

So I just received an email with an “exclusive password” to buy Beyonce tickets. In the list of tour dates I saw a show in Seattle, WA. This is the only U.S. tour date I have seen so far for Beyonce’s “I Am” tour…and Washington sure beats going to Europe…wait..I kinda want to go to Europe now. Sigh.

Keep checking Beyonce’s tour page at Ticketmaster here! The password is “beyonce”.

Beyonce needs to add U.S. tour dates. Now.

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

beyonceBeyonce… I love you, but is there a reason why you’re only touring Europe in the Spring? Am I seriously going to have to fly to Europe to see you in concert again (I mean, if I have to I will..but I’d prefer the convenience of the States). Now that I think about it… I’ve been to every tour Beyonce has done since she went solo… Alright, time to start looking into which “I Am…” show I’ll be going to. It has to be after finals and before summer school. This will be annoying but worth it.

If any of you are interested in seeing B in Europe, here’s the link for all the info you need (and some really exciting VIP packages…that’s how I got to meet Beyonce the first time around!)

P.S. I know I sound like a crazy person, but this is how much I love Beyonce in concert. She’s amazing.
